EUCAST Antifungal Susceptibility Testing Subcommittee

The EUCAST Subcommittee on Antifungal Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST AFST) has described standardised methodology and determines breakpoints for antifungal drugs. The subcommittee has wide geographical representation. Methods for MIC determination of yeasts and Aspergillus spp., and  EUCAST breakpoints for five antifungal agents, and MIC ranges for quality control strains have been published. Collaborative work establishment of breakpoints for additional agents and for A. fumigatus is ongoing. Sources of variation in testing are being examined.

The subcommittee was chaired by Dr Juan-Luis Rodriguez-Tudela (Spain) and the secretary was J P Donnelly (The Netherlands). After many years of staunch service Juan-Luis and Peter resigned in 2011.
