EUCAST Organization

  • EUCAST statutes

EUCAST Statutes (amended 2016-04-11) outlines the objectives, membership structure, consultation and decision process, breakpoint setting for new agents, meetings, publication policy, declarations of interests and funding of EUCAST. The statutes were originally published in November 1999 and have been amended several times since then.

  • Steering Committee

The ESCMID-appointed Steering Committee consists of the Chairman, the Scientific Secretary, the Clinical Data Co-ordinator, the Technical Data Co-ordinator, a representative from each of the European national breakpoint committees and two representatives from the EUCAST general committee.

  • General Committee

The General Committee consists of the Chairman, the Scientific Secretary, the Clinical Data Co-ordinator, the Technical Data Coordinator and Webmaster and country representatives many of whom represents NACs from European countries and some countries outside Europe. There is also one representative from ISC.

  • Subcommittees

EUCAST subcommittees are set up to deal with specific issues or areas requiting particular expertise. Consultations and decisions on subcommittee proposals are made through the EUCAST Steering Committee and follows the structure of all other consultations and decisions.

  • National AST Committees (NAC)

EUCAST recommends that countries institute a “National Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Committee” (or a committee corresponding to this description). Countries in the process of adopting EUCAST antimicrobial susceptibility testing guidelines will find this particularly useful during the implementation process. The chairperson, or another committee officer, should represent the country on the EUCAST General Committee.

  • Development Laboratories

The EUCAST Development Laboratories (EDL) are responsible for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of bacteria and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of fungi.

  • Network Laboratories

The EUCAST AST Network Laboratories form two separate loosely constructed networks of microbiology laboratories with particular expertise and training in EUCAST antimicrobial and antifungal susceptibility testing, respectively.
